Our Horses
Ruehl Review - “Rue”
Meet Rue, a horse with a heart as big as his hooves. This handsome American Warmblood was generously donated to our program by Pam Kinsey in 2024. Since then, he’s made it his mission to prove that therapy horses can be just as charming as they are helpful.
After a glittering career as a hunter, Rue hung up his show boots and transitioned to a new role: a devoted, affectionate heart horse for humans 4 feet and under. Rue is all about loyalty, friendship, and - let’s be honest - being spoiled. He’s basically a celebrity in the barn, accepting pampering with dignified grace… unless you’re brushing his mane a little too long, in which case, he’ll give you the side-eye.
Rue spent a solid year learning how to just be a horse. He’s now an expert in enjoying turnout, receiving top-tier bodywork, and demonstrating his deep love for his soulmate, Lulu. Rue is also an absolute pro at pelvic floor rehabilitation and early equitation, adding a little umph to hippotherapy. This makes him the perfect partner for those who appreciate a connected, dynamic ride. Despite what some might’ve thought, Rue isn’t just a pretty face. His willingness to connect with tiny humans has shattered the “therapy horse” stereotype, turning him into a beloved companion for clients.
Lulu
Meet Lulu, our pint-sized powerhouse with a heart as big as her personality! Purchased by the Fathom Collective in. 2024, Lulu arrived with plenty of potential and a few challenging quirks. Initially, she wasn’t sure how to connect with the world around her. But after some detective work, we discovered that Lulu struggled to see the world - she has congenital low vision in one eye and a visual field cut in the other.
With a little TLC, consent-based practices, and a lot of patience, Lulu has blossomed into a true community gem. While she’s not part of the mounted program, she’s earned a reputation as our wisdom guru, teaching participants about boundaries, consistency, and the sacred art of patience.
Lulu may have started with some challenges, but today she’s a reminder with time, patience, and a little help from our four legged friends, anything is possible. And, hey, she’s living proof that a little vision impairment can’t stop a pony from being a superstar.
Skip’s Major Feature - “Josh”
Meet Josh, aka “Squash”. His tenderness, steadiness, and deep empathy are all natural parts of his temperament. He’s not just a therapy horse; Josh is the farm’s “enforcer”. Always fair, always diplomatic, Josh has a way of teaching younger horses proper manners and protecting both horses and humans alike from any pasture-side antics. If there’s a mischief-maker in the herd, Josh is there to calmly set things right.
Though he has a strong presence, Josh’s real magic is in his ability to connect. He’s a steady, gentle soul with a sense of humor and a deep understanding of others. He smiles for treats, comes when called, and loves to go for walks with his human friends without even needing a halter. His easygoing, patient nature makes him a favorite among beginner riders.
Josh’s connection with humans goes far beyond the typical relationship between therapy horse and rider. His unique blend of humor, warmth, and wisdom makes him a cherished companion for everyone he meets. Josh’s presence on the farm is a gift, and his commitment to his work is unmatched.
Eddie’s Wave - “Kevin”
Kevin has a heart of gold and some impressive stories to share - just ask his mom how he earned his name! But Kevin’s true claim to fame is his deep love for kids, which earned him the title of “kid’s horse” on the racetrack. His gentle nature and warm heart make him a favorite among younger riders, and he loves being the center of attention.
Adopted by Avery Dukes, Fathom’s equine manager and head trainer, Kevin’s journey to wellness has been hard fought. When he arrived, he faced several challenges: white line disease, a lamellar wedge, and visual impairment. He requires extensive farrier work, weekly bodywork, and microbiome rehabilitation. Even in discomfort, he remains steady, showing resilience in every step.
Kevin’s story is one of growth, healing, and self-discovery. His gentle, thoughtful nature has made him a favorite among staff and students, and we’re excited to see where his journey takes him. There’s no rush, just a steady path forward to a fulfilling future of his creation.
